It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Carolyn Sue Anderson, of Sun City, AZ, passed away in Las Vegas, NV on January 13, 2025, leaving a void her family will not be able to fill.

Carol was born in Denver, CO in 1943 to Earnest Russell Anderson and Dorothy Bugh. Carol is a veteran of the United States Navy. After her discharge from the Navy, she earned a legal degree and went to work at Placer Title Co. in Vacaville, CA. She then served as a civilian employee for the U. S. Air Force on Travis AFB, and later retired from both the University of California San Diego and San Diego State University.

Carol was a devoted mother to her four children, Wayne D. Deryck Jr., Michael B. Deryck, Ronald S. Deryck, and Richard A. Deryck. She raised all four boys by herself, due to the needs of the U.S. Navy keeping their father deployed. Despite the many relocations over the years, the one constant was Carol ensuring that her boys had everything they needed and wanted. Her love and dedication have resulted in all four sons becoming productive members of society.

Carol was a survivor of extreme domestic abuse.  As her children got older, she found the courage to start a new life and managed to keep a relationship with all her children. She exemplified what a devoted parent is. Carol lived her life the best she knew how and left this earth wishing that her children would find happiness in this world. While our hearts mourn the loss, we take comfort in knowing she is no longer suffering.

Carol was an avid cat lover. While she never had more than 1-2 cats at a time, she enjoyed the company of cats immensely. Some of the cats that Mom enjoyed spending time with over her lifetime were Tinkerbell, Goldilocks, Kitty, Simba, Sammy, Oreo, Mimi, Mila, and Smoochie.

She also enjoyed spending time with Mike and Vanessa’s dogs, Bark Vader and Princess.

Her hobbies and passions included painting (portraits), drawing (sketches), sewing, cooking, genealogy, scrapbooking, photography, technology (computers starting with the TRS-80 in the 70’s), gadgets, and Elvis Presley.

Her favorite places to live were San Diego, California and Arizona.

She loved to visit her boys (wherever they lived), Rosarita beach, Mexico, Tennessee, and California.

She loved to cook. Some of her favorite dishes were tuna noodle casserole, chicken divan, Chile relleno, mashed potatoes, crab dip (cream cheese > cocktail sauce > crab shreds), potato/onion/mushroom casserole, linguine with creamy clam sauce, and stuffed bell peppers.

Some of her favorite TV shows were The Waltons, Murder She Wrote, Below Deck, Alien Encounters, Deadliest Catch, How the Universe Works, Mork & Mindy, Three’s Company, Ancient Aliens, Airplane Repo, and many others.

Carol was preceded in death by her eldest son, Wayne D. Deryck Jr., and is survived by her sons, Michael B. Deryck, Ronald S. Deryck, Richard A. Deryck; her daughters-in law Mick Dill, Vanessa Parker, and Lorna Deryck; her grandchildren, Dr. Rachel M. Deryck, Timothy Deryck, Joshua J. Corona, Scott M. Deryck, and Emma Phelan; and her brother William ‘Rusty’ Anderson, who will never forget the love she brought to their lives.

The memorial service for Carolyn Sue Anderson is on March 6, 2025, 1:20pm at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, NV.

Please celebrate Carol, and honor her memory by living your life the way you want to live it.
